Science and Superstition Dialogue: The Anti-Superstition Legislation

Centre for Contemporary Studies, IISc and Bharat Gyan Vigyan Samiti (BGVS) Karnataka jointly organized a panel discussion on “Science and Superstition Dialogue: The Anti-Superstition Legislation”. Dr. Rajan Gurukkal talked of the social function of superstition and highlighted that superstitions are being used as an instrument for collective oppression. Dr. Shobhana Narasimhan stated that the scientific community has a responsibility to facilitate discussions on the legislation and called for greater participation of scientists to foster scientific temper. Neenu Suresh talked about the draft legislation and the various measures in it to protect people from superstitious practices.
