Resolution on Water Resource Management

India is threatened to become one of the water scarce countries in a decade. Nearly 70% of the country's irrigation and 80% of domestic water is drawn from our fast depleting ground water resources. While the above threat may soon assume alarming proportion, the governments at the centre and in different states, in the name of promoting liberalization and economic reforms is opening up this sector to foreign monopoly.

The 15th All India People's Science Congress strongly opposes any such move. It urges the central and state governments to desist from allowing access to further unbridled exploitation of this precious resource and formulate a comprehensive plan for utilization of water such that all sections of the society, specially the poor and socially marginalized are not denied their rightful access to the basic necessity like water.
